"I was given a complimentary copy of this book, but that does not in any way influence this review of “The Gryphon” which in my opinion is a very well written book by a great new author.
I very much enjoyed reading “The Gryphon” by Paula Grover whom I feel is a highly creative and brilliant new fantasy novelist. She writes an exciting, thrilling, and emotionally multi-faceted story about a protagonist who struggles through many difficulties with courage and cleverness. I felt the author began the book in an exciting way showing her talent and her style of writing exhibited a detailed description of the lead character, other characters, and the scenes throughout the story. Here is an excerpt from the beginning of this story,
“The Gryphon stands magnificent upon the precipice, staring down at the valley below. She shimmers in the morning sun, her golden feathers rustling slightly in the gentle mountain breeze. She cocks her head, her reddish beak as sharp and hard as the mountain rock upon which her leonine body stands. She is stalk still except for her tail, which swishes like that of an agitated cat. Her aquiline forearms present a contrast to her rear feline body, with talons as razor-sharp as her avian beak.”
I also felt this intriguing fantasy story with its mythical creatures moved at a nice pace with unexpected events, dangers, an insurmountable predicament, rising up to meet challenges, twists and turns, suspense, bravery and much more all of which I found very entertaining and I liked the imagination of the author and the emotions of this excellent story.
I was very surprised this is the first book by this new author and in my opinion, she is an excellent writer and crafted this story very well! I enjoyed it!"
